ABOUT MOUNTBATTEN LODGE
- Ranked #1 Specialty Lodging in Ranakpur
The Mountbatten Lodge is a family owned and operated country retreat set within the Aravalli Hills near Ranakpur, midway between Udaipur and Jodhpur. The Lodge was conceived and designed by Reggie Singh, son of Maharaj Madan Singh. Reggie Singh was one of India’s early hospitality pioneers, and The Lodge reflects a lifetime spent exploring the state’s deserts, forests and rural landscapes. Safaris remain at the heart of the Mountbatten experience, offering guests the opportunity to discover a lesser known side of India through carefully guided journeys into the surrounding wilderness.
Although quietly positioned on the edge of the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, The Lodge lies within easy reach of two of Rajasthan’s most important heritage sites, the Ranakpur Jain Temples and Kumbhalgarh Fort. Many guests choose Mountbatten Lodge as a stopping point on the journey between Udaipur and Jodhpur, though the tranquillity of the valley and the range of experiences on offer often encourage a longer stay.
Conceived as a colonial style hunting lodge rather than a conventional hotel, it offers a collection of thoughtfully appointed suites, gracious dining, swimming pools and experiences shaped by the character of the region. The atmosphere is informed by a long tradition of family hospitality. Today, the Lodge is hosted by Reggie Singh’s eldest son, Hemendra Singh Rathore, and his wife Sonakshi, whose presence continues the family’s longstanding tradition of welcoming guests to this corner of Rajasthan. Many members of the team have worked with the Singh family for generations, while others belong to the wider family clan of the Rathores, creating a continuity of care, local knowledge and personal welcome that defines life at The Lodge. It is an experience shaped by place, tradition and a quiet sense of hospitality that has long been part of Rajasthan.
LODGE PHILOSOPHY
A Private Wilderness. A Living Legacy.
- 7 Suites
- 4 Main Wing
- 3 Edwina Villa
The Lodge takes its name from a long held local story that Lord Mountbatten once camped in this valley. The connection feels fitting, as there is a timeless quality to The Mountbatten Lodge. With just seven suites, the atmosphere is more akin to a private residence than a conventional hotel, allowing guests the space and freedom to experience the region at their own pace.
Accommodation at The Mountbatten Lodge is divided between the Mountbatten Wing and Edwina Villa, offering a variety of layouts suited to couples, families and small groups. The Mountbatten Wing comprises two standalone suites and a two-bedroom family suite, each designed to provide comfort, privacy and a close connection to the surrounding landscape. For those seeking a more secluded stay, Edwina Villa is a self-contained, two-story residence with three suites. Ideal for families or groups travelling together, the villa features its own swimming pool, hot tub and fire pit, creating a private setting in which to relax and enjoy the rhythms of the valley.
Situated approximately two hours from Udaipur and three hours from Jodhpur, Mountbatten Lodge is both a destination in its own right and a natural stopping point for travellers seeking a deeper, more considered journey through Rajasthan.

The Essence of The Lodge
- Nestled in the Aravalli Hills
- Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary border
- 80 km from Udaipur

The Valley
Nestled within a secluded valley of the Aravalli Hills, the oldest mountain range in the world, Mountbatten Lodge occupies a landscape that has remained largely unchanged for generations. The forests of the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary stretch beyond The Lodge, while the surrounding hills provide a sense of privacy and calm that is increasingly difficult to find. Mornings begin with birdsong and cool mountain air; evenings are marked by long shadows and the changing colours of the valley. More than simply a setting, the landscape shapes the rhythm of life here, inviting guests to slow down, explore at their own pace and experience a quieter side of Rajasthan.

The Heritage
Mountbatten Lodge is shaped by the heritage of a family whose roots in Rajasthan extend back centuries. As members of the Jodhpur Royal family, their history is woven quietly throughout the Lodge, not as a display, but as part of everyday life. Family photographs, records of safaris and sporting pursuits, and mementoes of friendships formed across generations offer glimpses into a life long connected to this landscape. That heritage is reflected not only in the interiors, but in the traditions of hospitality, the language of welcome, the uniforms worn by the staff and the dishes served at the table. More than a heritage property, Mountbatten Lodge remains a family home in spirit, guided by a simple belief: we are not hoteliers, we are hosts.

The Wilderness
The wilderness surrounding Mountbatten Lodge is best experienced beyond its boundaries. Drawing on generations of knowledge of the region, our guides lead guests into the forests, hills and tribal lands that define this corner of Rajasthan. Leopard safaris, horseback expeditions, guided walks through remote villages and valleys, and sundowners on secluded hilltops offer a deeper understanding of the landscape and the people who call it home. For those seeking a greater sense of adventure, we can arrange fully serviced mobile camps in remote locations, allowing guests to spend a night under canvas before returning to the comforts of the Lodge.

EXPERIENCES & SAFARIS
Beyond The Lodge
The Aravalli Hills are not passive scenery. They are an invitation. Mountbatten Lodge curates a range of immersive experiences that extend the property into its extraordinary landscape — each one designed to bring guests into authentic contact with Rajasthan’s wildest, most storied corner.

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary
Journey deep into one of Rajasthan's most beautiful and least explored wilderness areas on a scenic jeep safari through the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary. Your experience begins at the magnificent Ranakpur Jain Temples before leaving the crowds behind and entering a landscape of rolling hills, dense forest and winding mountain tracks. Covering more than 600 square kilometres of protected wilderness, the sanctuary forms part of the ancient Aravalli Range, one of the oldest mountain systems on earth.

Village Treks
Step beyond The Lodge and discover a landscape where life continues much as it has for generations. Accompanied by an experienced member of our team, these gentle walks follow jungle trails through the foothills of the ancient Aravalli Range, passing traditional villages, small farms and sacred groves hidden amongst the hills. Along the way, guests gain a rare insight into everyday rural life and the enduring customs of Rajasthan's tribal communities, while enjoying the rich birdlife and natural beauty that surrounds The Mountbatten Lodge. Suitable for all levels of fitness, village treks provide an authentic and rewarding connection to the region and its people.

Sundowners
No stay at The Mountbatten Lodge would be complete without experiencing one of India's most enduring traditions, the sundowner. As the day begins to cool and the golden light softens across the Aravalli Hills, we escort guests to a secluded vantage point chosen for its sweeping views and spectacular sunsets. Settle into comfortable campaign chairs with a drink in hand as the sky transforms through shades of gold, rose and amber. Accompanied by attentive service, carefully prepared refreshments and the tranquillity of the surrounding wilderness, our sundowners offer a memorable opportunity to pause, reflect and savour the beauty of rural Rajasthan.
